Pastel Accounting (Legacy)

Thousands of South African businesses continue to operate on legacy Pastel Partner, Pastel Xpress, or Pastel Evolution installations that predate the migration to Sage Business Cloud. TimeWorks provides a dedicated legacy Pastel connector that exports sales journals, VAT summaries, and inventory movements in the Pastel import format, keeping your existing Pastel installation in sync with your point of sale without requiring an expensive accounting software upgrade. The integration is maintained and updated by the TimeWorks team to remain compatible with current Pastel file structures.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common Questions

Which legacy Pastel versions does the TimeWorks connector support? add
TimeWorks supports Pastel Partner (all versions), Pastel Xpress, and Pastel Evolution. These are the most common legacy Pastel installations still in active use across South African retail and hospitality businesses. Pastel Accounting (the earliest version) and Pastel Office are also supported via the CSV journal import format, which is consistent across all legacy Pastel products. If you are running a version not listed here, contact our support team with your Pastel version number and we can confirm compatibility before you commit to the integration.
Does the legacy Pastel integration support the current South African VAT rate of 15%? add
Yes. The TimeWorks Pastel export applies the current 15% VAT rate introduced by SARS in April 2018. If your Pastel installation still has the previous 14% rate configured for historical records, the export file can specify the correct VAT category code that maps to 15% in your Pastel tax table. We recommend confirming with your accountant that your Pastel tax table has been updated to the 15% rate, as businesses still reconciling historical periods may have both rates active and the correct rate must be applied to the correct period's transactions.
Should I consider migrating from legacy Pastel to a cloud accounting system? add
Many South African businesses continue successfully on legacy Pastel, particularly those that are comfortable with the system and have a bookkeeper experienced in Pastel. The main reasons to consider migration are when your Pastel installation becomes incompatible with newer Windows versions, when you need multi-user cloud access for remote bookkeeping, or when your accountant requests SARS-compliant e-filing features available in Sage Business Cloud or Xero. TimeWorks supports both legacy Pastel and modern cloud accounting platforms, so you can migrate at your own pace without disrupting your POS integration.
